As bandleader and arranger of The Gil Thompson Trio, Gil has appeared in numerous venues in the tri-state area, including the Republican National Convention Dinner Cruise, an extended engagement at Cape May’s prestigious Pelican Club, numerous performances in Atlantic City, along with countless public, private, and corporate engagements in the Philadelphia area, Delaware, and the Southern New Jersey shore. Gil also appears in special solo performances at wedding services and receptions, social functions, local music festivals and senior care facilities. With a wide variety of tunes, ranging in style from jazz classics and love songs to Latin dance music, all performed with his own unique arrangements, Gil Thompson has something to please an audience of mixed ages and musical tastes.
In performance, as soloist or with ensemble, Gil is equally comfortable on acoustic piano or on his portable professional digital piano. His portable instrument is very well suited for venues where no piano is available or where space is at a premium. Gil is a seasoned full-time performer with over 30 years of experience, and is also able to function as Master of Ceremonies.
Gil Thompson has led a diverse musical career as a solo pianist, arranger, teacher and bandleader with ensembles of various styles including traditional jazz, contemporary jazz, Top 40, R&B, and Latin music. Gil began studying classical piano at the age of 4. He attended Rowan University where he studied music education, classical piano performance with internationally renowned pianist Veda Zuponcic, and jazz performance with prominent jazz musicians Denis DiBlasio, Ron Thomas, and Gerald Price. Gil’s pianistic style is a blend of his classical and jazz training with his current interests in Latin and Caribbean music.
